This national, juried visual art competition and exhibition is open to two-dimensional figurative artists (referencing the human figure), working in painting, drawing and printmaking who are over the age of 18. This year’s juror is Lance Esplund, an art critic for The Wall Street Journal. Esplund will select the exhibition works from the pool of entries and announce the awards during the gallery talk at the opening reception. The exhibit runs through December 9. The Lore Degenstein Gallery at Susquehanna University will launch its first exhibition of 2019, Sue Coe: A Retrospective, with an opening reception on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through March 6. All gallery events are free and open to the public. Sue Coe is a contemporary English artist noted for her intensely political graphic illustrations and activism. This exhibition draws from the eclectic collection of the Lore Degenstein Gallery of Susquehanna University. Curated by gallery director Dan Olivetti, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, prints, fiber art, photography, sculpture and mid-20th-century French posters. Many of the recent works by contemporary artists have been acquired through the gallery’s annual figurative drawing and painting competitions and from artists who have been featured in gallery exhibitions.
