“Silent Night” at Historic Rock Ford
December 26, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - December 28, 2020 @ 7:30 pm
Join us for an all new Yuletide celebration at Historic Rock Ford! “Silent Night” invites guests to experience a winter’s evening in the Hand family household during the Twelve Days of Christmas. Creativity abounds in the mansion decked with ribbons and greenery and each room filled to brimming with the evidence of a day’s imagined activities in the 18th Century. The people of the Hand family household are all around but, like spirits from the past, they are unseen!
“Silent Night” is sort of a play on words. Our Yuletide typically involves guides in period dress telling visitors about the rooms and traditions of the period, but the current public health guidelines required us to think differently. “We are very excited to be partnering with Millersville University professor Dr. Barry Atticks and his sound engineering students to re-envision our Yuletide program for 2020,” said Curator Sarah Alberico. Dr. Atticks’ team is using 21st century technology to populate Rock Ford with voices and other sound effects to envelope visitors in a bustling household filled with young children, teens, servants and even pets. This partnership will allow Rock Ford to come to life but in a COVID-19 safe way. Silent masked Rock Ford Guides will simply point the way through the house to “follow the sounds.” The limited number of guests will be asked to remain silent as they move about to allow all their senses to be engaged and fully take in the sights, sounds and even scents around them.
The evening will culminate as guests exit the mansion and follow the footsteps of the older Hand family members to the scene of a glittering period ball where Rock Ford dancers will show off their footing skills and their latest fashions.
Rock Ford Yuletide will take place on December 26, 27 and 28 from 4:00 to 7:30 with timed tickets every fifteen minutes to allow for small group sizes. The price is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 7-12, and children ages 6 and under are free. Group size will be limited to 6 people and tickets will go on sale December 1st through RockFord.Yapsody.com. Face coverings (masks or face shields) are required for all visitors, staff and volunteers. Please review the important information found on our Yapsody page prior to making your reservations.
All proceeds benefit Historic Rock Ford, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, PA 17602. Built in 1794, Rock Ford was the home of Edward Hand and his family.
