SUMMARY:Online Exhibition and Artist Lecture via Zoom by Antonio McAfee
DESCRIPTION:Virtually View the Photographic Works of Internationally Known Artist at HACC \n“Eyes of Another\,” an exhibition of photographs by internationally known artist\, Antonio McAfee\, will be displayed in a virtual art exhibit curated by the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery at HACC\, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College\, from Sept. 1-Oct. 1\, 2021. \nMcAfee’s work addresses the complexity of representation by appropriating and manipulating photographic portraits of African Americans in the 19th century\, funk\, and rhythm and blues (R&B) musicians\, as well as transitioned family members. In his work\, he attempts to provide alternate ways to see historical portraits of African Americans\, allowing the subjects to have a multitude of possibilities\, real and imagined\, within a still image. \nIn McAfee’s “Eyes of Another” series\, the reimagined images provide a less static and more inexplicable depiction of the individuals\, breaking down their image to reveal red and blue versions that play with the act of viewing and perception.  \nMcAfee has been featured in various publications and catalogs\, including the Baltimore Magazine and The Washington Post. He appropriated photographs from W.E.B Du Bois and Thomas Calloway’s “Exhibition of American Negroes” and Ronald Rooks into various 3D images. \nUsing Zoom\, McAfee will discuss his work on Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. To learn how to join the lecture\, please visit the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery website.
