April 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pmFree
Reece Jones, author and expert on geography, will explore the long history of worldwide immigration restrictions in a lecture at Dickinson. “Violent Borders: The State vs. the Right to Move,” will be held Monday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Stern Center, Great Room, 208 W. Louther St. A book sale and signing will follow the talk. This event is free and open to the public.
Jones, a professor of geography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, will discuss the prevalence of border violence in a world that limits the free movement of people. He will share the stories of refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, west Africa and other regions to explore how states continue to reinforce unnatural and violent borders to contain specific populations and control their access to resources and opportunities.
