Professor and researcher on Spanish literature and film N. Michelle Murray will discuss race, gender and the representation of migrant women in Spanish film in a virtual talk hosted by Dickinson College’s Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues.
This talk will provide an overview of the representation of migrant women by Spanish directors and will discuss and connect novels that reflect the limiting representations of race and gender in Spain.

Her first book, “Home Away from Home: Immigrant Narratives, Domesticity, and Coloniality in Contemporary Spanish Culture,” studies representations of immigrant women as domestic workers in present-day Spain. Murray is currently working on a book entitled “Migrant Markets” which explores migration, political economy and trafficking in the Southern Mediterranean.
