A Live and Learn Series Program: Frances Harper and the African American Women of the Old 8th Ward

March 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Join The Library and the Commonwealth Monument Project for our monthly partner program series, “Live and Learn.” In March we will explore the life and work of Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, whose full-life bronze figure anchors the narrative of Harrisburg’s “A Gathering at the Crossroads” monument.

We will also learn about the 34 African American women honored on the monument pedestal, including Ester Popel, Annie Amos, and Hannah Braxton Jones. The program will spotlight the incredible contributions of Maude Coleman, civil rights change agent and activist. Presenters provide an homage to the impact of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of Ruth on the women of the Old 8th Ward.

Together we will learn more about these incredible women who shaped Harrisburg’s history. Learn more at dcls.org/adultevents.
