2021 Hershey History Center Preservation Tour and Gala
September 25 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join the Hershey History Center as they begin their annual preservation celebrations with La Festa Italiana, an event series focusing on over one hundred and one years of Italian heritage in the bustling Chocolatetown. Though Italian immigrants began working in the surrounding villages before Chocolate manufacturing developed, as the town developed, so did their burgeoning opportunities. The resilient, resourceful spirit of the Italians who came to call this town home endured and established one of the most robust Italian communities in Central Pennsylvania.
On Saturday, September 25th, the History Center will begin their series of events with the annual Preservation Tour. This year’s tour will revisit where the Italians worked – the quarries and later the Factory; how they played – music, sports, and the gathering of la famiglia; and how they prayed.
Unique itineraries will guide guests past the homes, businesses, and memories of the families that distinguish our local heritage. At the conclusion of the Tour, guests will be invited to stomp grapes, learn about winemaking, play classic Italian games, and listen to the sounds of Italian music. Italian lunch included for all tour participants. Limited seating and tour times available!
The following week on Saturday, October 2nd, join the Hershey History Center for their 24th annual Preservation Gala where food, wine, and music will transform an iconic setting into a commemoration of Hershey’s Italian families, businesses, and history. The event features centennial anniversary celebrations for two of the community’s most recognizable organizations, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and the Hershey Italian Lodge.
An Italian mass at St. Joan of Arc will precede the evening’s festivities. Highlights for Gala guests include authentic – and plentiful – Italian cuisine, a Piaggio Bar Kart serving il vino, live Italian music and traditional Italian dance performances, dancing to Sinatra standards performed by Crooner Rich, Italian song sing-a-longs, and a silent auction featuring one of-a-kind-items.
